Lights, camera, action Chesapeake Shores is back
GOOD MORNING NANAIMO – Downtown Nanaimo streets were busy last week as crews, equipment and actors crowded sidewalks to film scenes for a season three episode of the Hallmark Channel television series Chesapeake Shores. Multiple scenes were shot Thursday at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre and on Victoria Crescent throughout the morning and evening, which provided some entertainment for passersby.
40 YEARS OF LEADING THE WAY - The Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society is celebrating 40 years if helping people acclimatize to their vastly different realities. Executive director Jennifer Fowler said it was 1979 when a volunteer-led task force explored how to make life easier for immigrants. “They wanted to see how we could help an influx of newcomers who were coming here 40 years ago,” Fowler said. “It was a community initiative that grew to where we are now.” The one-stop re-settlement hub, including language classes, on-site childcare and employment services, enriches the entire community beyond those directly impacted, Fowler said.
