Weather cancels downtown Santa Parade Saturday

Organizers of the Downtown Santa Parade announced regretfully that this year’s parade, schedule for the evening of Saturday, November 27 was being cancelled.

The parade is cancelled but all other Christmas events in downtown are scheduled to go ahead.

Another series of atmospheric river events is forecast for the area on Thursday, Saturday and next Tuesday and this was felt to form a hazard for participants and onlookers. The unknown threats to the roads and highways and other infrastructure from such events is a concern, as is the current fuel crisis.

Harbour Air once again hosts the “Santa Fly-In”, but on four consecutive Saturdays starting November 27. One lucky family will win this harbour tour with Santa touching down at the waterfront at 12 Noon. Families are invited to be among the first to see Santa this year by gathering at Harbour Air for a walk to Gingerbread Village on Commercial Street with Santa. Go to or for details.

This year, Santa’s Gingerbread Village will offer a chance for families to visit with Santa, safely distanced at pre-registered times on Saturdays and Sundays November 27 to December 19. While waiting for their appointment with Santa, children can also engage in some craft activities in the Village, and on some days pop across the street for storytelling or a puppet show at Literacy Nanaimo’s Bookstore.

The Downtown Business Association will also be presenting ‘Corner Concerts’ from Diana Krall Plaza Saturdays and Sundays from noon on.

Registration for Santa visits are available through EventBrite.
