We have to defend the freedom to express our views
I had a discussion with a friend the other day about freedom of expression. It’s been in the news quite a bit recently in both Canada and the United States.
The question in our country stemmed from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s declaration that a minority group and its views were unacceptable. In the U.S. it was the entertainment elete wanting to shut down someone’s voice, and using their status to exert influence.
The discussion came around to our own experience with expressing our views. We both came to the conclusion that often we keep our opinions to our self for fear of offending someone.
There are issues in our society that need to be discussed, more than one view expressed. It’s sad when political correctness steps in. There can’t be dialogue if we don’t have a wide range of views from all sides.
